The Damselfly

I was sitting at a local health food store working on my computer while having my lunch and this delicate little creature joined me. I thought it was a dragonfly but no, my internet research said it was a damselfly! I didn’t know anything about damselflies before…

Per Wikipedia, “damselflies are similar to dragonflies, but the adults can be distinguished by the fact that the wings of most damselflies are held along, and parallel to, the body when at rest. Furthermore, the hindwing of the damselfly is essentially similar to the forewing, while the hindwing of the dragonfly broadens near the base. Damselflies are also usually smaller than dragonflies and weaker fliers in comparison, and their eyes are separated.”

All I know is that it was cute and I loved the colors! Nature has some of the most amazing color combinations and contrasts… And I have no idea what stunt it was trying to pull in the third photo down, balancing on its behind (think it’s a long skinny belly) with arms outstretched, if you look real close I think it’s smiling:)?!ImageImageImageImage
